As timing would have it, Harper Lee died just after my Freshmen completed their study of To Kill a Mockingbird. My class decided to create a tribute to Harper Lee and hung it in our school’s hallway. The students included their reactions to Harper Lee’s work, a connection they made to the Scottsboro boys, a writing describing why we should never ban To Kill a Mockingbird in schools, and images from the time period in which To Kill a Mockingbird was set.
